You will be asked questions about your symptoms and also the issues you are having because of these symptoms. We will also ask about your medical history, general health and lifestyle and any medication you are currently taking.
To enable a full assessment of the area which is causing the symptoms, it may be necessary to perform a standing examination. To focus on the correct diagnosis simple tests may be carried out. These can include gentle movements, reflex tests or blood pressure checks. Sometimes when carrying out an examination we may need you to remove some items of clothing in order to see the area of your discomfort, if you would be more comfortable please feel free to bring some shorts and/or a vest top which you can change into.
Your treatment plan and diagnosis will be discussed with you before treatment commences. We will also give you a guide as to how many treatments you may need. If any further examinations, tests or x-rays are needed the reasons will be explained to you. We will also discuss any risks associated with the treatment.
Osteopathy aims to relive the pain you are experiencing. We will also aim to find the underlying cause of the symptoms to reduce the chance of them returning. To ease tension, pain and stiffness, osteopathy uses various techniques such as soft tissue work (massage), manipulation (sometimes heard as a click), or cranial sacral techniques (very subtle) as part of the treatment, we would use what we think to be the most effective techniques for the individual.
Any further follow up appointments after your initial consultation are approximately 30 minutes long.
